Nextcloud Hub 25 Autumn

At the end of September, the curtain was lifted in Berlin for the release of Nextcloud Hub 25, a major update from the community and the Nextcloud team, featuring a long list of improvements, changes, and visual updates. Below, we highlight the most important changes and explain how we handle major releases like this for our customers.

Nextcloud Office

In this release, a lot of attention has been given to the design of the Office tools, mainly to make them more consistent, easier to learn, and faster to use. One of the most noticeable changes is that each Office app now has its own color, making it visually clear where you need to click. The feature menu has also been redesigned, making functions more structured and easier to find.

Nextcloud Talk

The layout of Talk has been slightly updated and is now more in line with what you may be used to from other video calling apps. All essential controls, such as screen sharing, toggling your camera or microphone, and reaction options, are now placed in a toolbar below the video screen.

Nextcloud Calendar

Finding a suitable time with colleagues or external partners can be a challenge, and just seeing an empty slot in someone’s calendar doesn’t always mean they are actually available. With the new scheduling feature, you as the organizer can propose multiple time options and let invitees vote using a poll to pick the best moment.

Performance improvements

The release notes include several welcome performance upgrades. Chunked Uploads make uploading (large) files 15% faster. The mobile apps have been improved as well, making them more stable and faster. Access via the local file system has also become quicker, and the application now sends 15% fewer database requests.

How do we handle major updates?

At ProcoliX, we choose an approach that ensures the highest level of continuity while allowing our customers to benefit from the latest features. That’s why we never roll out major updates immediately. We first test them ourselves and then deploy the next follow-up update to our customers. The time between these releases can vary, but it allows us to make small fixes or adjustments in advance, so you don’t run into them as a customer.
