Last Saturday, December 6th, just one day after Sinterklaas evening, the Gerbrandy Tower in IJsselstein lit up again with its festive lights.
For me, and for all of us at ProcoliX, this is a special moment. Not because we believe the Christmas holiday itself is so important. The story of a child born in a stable because the ruling government (the Romans) insisted on a census and all the inns were full is not what matters most to us. And it's also not because the holiday now involves lighting up a tree to celebrate the coming spring and the lengthening days.
It's mainly because the tower beneath those lights houses one of our data centres, and the moment those lights switch on, it gives us a perfect opportunity to draw extra attention to that data centre. That data centre also brings a kind of light into the darkness. And that's why we say: you can the tree in!
By using the services we provide from that data centre (and of course from our tower in Amsterdam and the connections at Nikhef and via AFiber), you can escape the dark cloud of big tech. Out of the cloud, into the tower! It gives those lights an extra layer of meaning.
We offer 100% big-tech-free infrastructure and services. For example, you can rent a Nextcloud server from us, run your email with us or host a Jitsi or BigBlueButton video-conferencing server, all on your own domain name, which we can also help you with. Or what about an Immich photo server, where you can store your entire photo archive with easy search functions and automatic organisation based on location, time or what's in the picture?
All our services run on open-source software, so no giant American corporation can suddenly pull the plug. We actively support the development of that software as well. For instance, we help run pixelfed.com and mastodon.nl and we also host systems like petities.nl and the website of NLUUG at no cost. Of course there are also sites that pay us to be hosted by us, like stemwijzer.nl, legerdesheils.nl and waag.social.
Do you want to go 'the tree in' too? Take a look at our website (you might already be on it) to see all the products we offer. And if you don't see what you're looking for or just want to get in touch, sending an email to info@procolix.eu is the easiest way.
Into the light! The tree in!
This article was originally a Dutch article. 'Je kunt de boom in!' is a dutch saying that means 'forget it' literally saying 'go and sit up in the tree' which is a nice reference to the Christmas tree.
